About Jantar Mantar

Built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1734, Jantar Mantar is the world's largest stone sundial and the most significant of five astronomical observatories he constructed across India. Its 19 geometric instruments can measure time, predict eclipses, and track celestial bodies with extraordinary precision. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010.

Visitor Tips

  • Hire a guide — the instruments make much more sense with context
  • The giant Samrat Yantra sundial tells time accurately to 2 seconds
