Hawa Mahal
Five-storey pink palace with 953 latticed windows
About Hawa Mahal
The 'Palace of Winds' is Jaipur's most iconic landmark. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this five-storey pink sandstone façade has 953 small windows (jharokhas) designed so royal women could observe street festivals while remaining unseen. Its honeycomb structure is an extraordinary feat of Rajput craftsmanship.
Visitor Tips
- Enter from the back (not the front façade) — the main gate is on Tripolia Bazaar
