About City Palace, Jaipur

The City Palace is a sprawling complex in the heart of the old walled city, built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727. Part of the palace is still home to the royal family of Jaipur; the rest is a museum containing an exquisite collection of royal costumes, weapons, carpets, and two enormous silver urns — the largest silver vessels in the world.

Visitor Tips

  • The museum ticket includes 7 different galleries
  • Look for the two massive silver urns in Diwan-i-Khas
  • The Chandra Mahal (7 floors) is still the royal residence — spot it from the courtyard
  • Combine with Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar for a full old-city day
