About Jaisalmer Fort

Rising from the golden sands of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer Fort is the world's only fully inhabited ancient fort. Built in 1156 AD by Rajput ruler Jaisal, this UNESCO World Heritage Site houses palaces, temples, havelis, hotels, and restaurants within its 99 bastions. At dusk it glows a deep amber gold — earning Jaisalmer its name, 'The Golden City'.
